ALBA Integrated Waste Solutions recycled 4 million pieces of regulated E-waste in Hong Kong

ALBA Integrated Waste Solutions (Hong Kong) Limited (ALBA IWS) is pleased to announce that the company has recycled four million pieces of regulated e-waste, including appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, computers, printers, scanners, and monitors since October 2017 at the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Treatment and Recycling Facility (WEEE · PARK). This has contributed significantly to waste reduction and carbon reduction efforts in Hong Kong.

On 15 June 2023, ALBA IWS held a celebration ceremony at WEEE · PARK. The event was attended by Mr. Bruno LUK Kar Kin, JP, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection (Waste Reduction) of the Environmental Protection Department, representatives from ALBA Group Asia and Integrated Waste Solutions Group, who witnessed the processing of the 4 millionth piece of collected appliance. Mr. LUK said, “WEEE · PARK reflects the HKSAR Government’s commitment towards sustainable use of resources. We are delighted to see that public awareness of e-waste recycling is increasing constantly, and we hope that everyone will continue to actively practise waste reduction and recycling in their daily lives.”

E-waste products contain hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, and greenhouse gases. If the materials are not handled or disposed of properly, they can be harmful to the environment and human health. In addition, the abandoned appliances contain many valuable materials that can be transformed into valuable secondary materials through detoxification, dismantling, and recycling processes, and thus extend the use of resources.

Mr. GUO Yi, Chief Financial Officer of ALBA Group Asia said, “Over the past five years, ALBA IWS has successfully recovered tens of thousands of tons of secondary materials such as iron, copper, aluminium, and plastic through recycling and remanufacturing. Through these recovered materials, ALBA IWS has indirectly helped Hong Kong reduce about 350,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and promote the goal of achieving carbon neutrality. However, we don’t just stop here, we also donate refurbished appliances to community in need. This project is a perfect showcase of sustainability, setting an exemplar for Hong Kong and the world.”

Mr. Gerry LAM, CEO of Integrated Waste Solutions Group expressed, “It is our honour to collaborate with ALBA Group Asia. Our sincere congratulations to achieving this milestone in recycling 4 million pieces of waste electrical and electronic equipment in Hong Kong. We hope to continue working closely with the Environmental Protection Department and all other stakeholders, collectively contribute to environmental conservation of Hong Kong.”
