Eco Expo Asia 2025: Inspiring the next generation to embrace e-waste recycling

Sustainability requires long-term commitment. At Eco Expo Asia 2025, the enthusiasm from student visitors motivates us to contribute more to building a more sustainable future.

Apart from showcasing the Mini WEEE Hero, we also displayed parts from different appliances to illustrate that proper recycling of e-waste can play a crucial role in a circular economy. For instance, young visitors can learn that the plastics from a washing machine can be utilized to make a deodorizer case, while the glass from washing machine doors can be repurposed into glass decorations. We aspire to engage youngsters through exhibitions and interactive games, fostering their understanding of the importance of proper recycling.

We also shared our key project that brings the circular economy to life – WEEE · PARK collects and recycles e-waste with an 86% recycling rate, turning waste into valuable secondary raw materials.

A big thank you to everyone who visited us, especially our client, the Environmental Protection Department, HKSAR (EPD), for supporting our shared goal of a cleaner and more circular Hong Kong.

Supporting Tai O with refurbished appliances: ALBA IWS’ post-typhoon donation initiative

After the recent super typhoon swept across Hong Kong, several areas suffered from severe flooding and infrastructure damage. Among these, Tai O was one of the areas most affected by flooding.

ALBA IWS aimed to provide practical help to families affected by the floods promptly. After the storm, we, collaborated with Tai O Chinese Chamber of Commerce and CC Smile Charity Foundation, conducted three batches of refurbished appliance donations, contributing a total of 65 pieces to support households in need. We also provided on-site collection of residents’ old e-waste damaged by flood to help reduce pollution to the environment.

Moreover, we visited several beneficiaries to better understand their living conditions and the challenges they faced during the typhoon. Many stilt houses in the villages were submerged above the knees. One of the families lives in a tiny stilt house on the coastline, and thus they were the first to be affected when the typhoon swept through, resulting in the loss of many home appliances and impacting their daily life. With the refurbished refrigerator we donated, they can now store fresh food and gradually return to a normal life.

Rebuilding takes time, and our contribution was only a small part of the effort. Still, we hope these simple gestures brought a bit of comfort to the people of Tai O after such difficult days.

What happened to the secondary raw materials produced by WEEE · PARK after recycling?

We showcased our 3D‑printed mini WEEE Hero, crafted from recycled ABS plastics sourced from WEEE · PARK. ABS is a durable material commonly found in products like televisions and computers and was given a new life through this initiative. Visitors were surprised to see how everyday electronic waste can be transformed into fresh creations, sparking inspiring conversations about circular solutions and the potential of sustainable innovation.

Our Director, Kenny Wong, joined the panel “The Path Towards Successful Producer Responsibility Schemes”, where he shared our perspectives and explored the future development and challenges of the initiative with industry peers.

A Warm Welcome to Global Environmental Practitioners!

It was our pleasure to take part in Eco Expo Asia 2024 again this year, sharing fresh ideas under the theme: Fostering Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality.

During the 4-day exhibition, we showcased our free door-to-door e-waste collection service and also exchanged innovative ideas with various sectors with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality.

During this period, we also hosted several international delegations at our newly renovated WEEE · PARK education center. It was our honor to welcome representatives from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Guangdong’s Department of Industry and Information Technology, and Waste Management and Recycling Association of Singapore, joined by Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore. These visits provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights on green innovation and circular economy practices, further reinforcing the Expo’s theme of fostering a carbon-neutral future.

ReThink 2024: A Sustainable Journey!

We are excited to revisit our experience at ReThink HK 2024, the sustainable business forum and solutions expo held in Hong Kong in September. ReThinkHK emerged as a pivotal gathering of over 250 organizations, including industry experts, corporations, and social enterprises, united in pursuit of a greener, more inclusive future.

Our ALBA Hong Kong team proudly showcased cutting-edge e-waste management solutions, coinciding with a significant milestone — the release of our inaugural sustainability report. This report embodies our dedication to professional, safe, and innovative waste management solutions, promoting sustainability, circularity, and environmental stewardship.

In preparation for the Producer Responsibility Scheme for Plastic Beverage Containers and Beverage Cartons in Hong Kong, we showcased our new reverse vending machine (RVM) collecting beverage cartons, in addition to our earlier introduction of 120 RVMs in Hong Kong for collecting plastic beverage containers — integrating sustainability efforts into a unified operation. This innovation highlights the fusion of convenience and impact in sustainable practices.

Throughout the two-day event, we had the opportunity to engage with clients, partners, colleagues from Asia, and friends of the recycling community. Let’s collectively embrace change and propel towards a world without waste — a future where sustainability transcends choice to become an essential imperative.

Discover the New Look of WEEE · PARK’s Education Centre

ALBA IWS has unveiled a refreshed guided tour experience at WEEE · PARK, Hong Kong’s most advanced facility for recycling Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The newly redesigned Education Centre featuring vibrant visuals, interactive games, and hands-on exhibits that highlight the importance of proper WEEE disposal and material recovery.

Since opening in 2017, the centre has welcomed over 30,000 visitors. The upgraded tour begins with WEEE · PARK’s history and milestones, followed by a visit to the Refurbishment Workshop, where guests can understand the donation service in action and observe the repair process for refurbishable appliances.

Then, head to the Unloading Bay to learn about the importance of electronic waste recycling through on-site demonstrations of upcycled products, along with a carbon emissions calculator, and to find out our process of handling WEEE.

In the Buffer Storage area, various appliances are displayed in the awaiting zone, allowing visitors to understand the handling process before they are sent for recycling. The journey concludes at the Dashboard Area, which provides an exhibition space for secondary raw materials, recycling data, and photo opportunities.

By combining education, innovation, and sustainability, WEEE · PARK aims to inspire greater awareness of responsible WEEE management and a greener future for all.
