ALBA IWS aimed to provide practical help to families affected by the floods promptly. After the storm, we, collaborated with Tai O Chinese Chamber of Commerce and CC Smile Charity Foundation, conducted three batches of refurbished appliance donations, contributing a total of 65 pieces to support households in need. We also provided on-site collection of residents’ old e-waste damaged by flood to help reduce pollution to the environment.

Moreover, we visited several beneficiaries to better understand their living conditions and the challenges they faced during the typhoon. Many stilt houses in the villages were submerged above the knees. One of the families lives in a tiny stilt house on the coastline, and thus they were the first to be affected when the typhoon swept through, resulting in the loss of many home appliances and impacting their daily life. With the refurbished refrigerator we donated, they can now store fresh food and gradually return to a normal life.

Rebuilding takes time, and our contribution was only a small part of the effort. Still, we hope these simple gestures brought a bit of comfort to the people of Tai O after such difficult days.

Each appliance represents more than just a physical object – it is a symbol of care from the community.

These heartfelt words were shared by the underprivileged beneficiary families. Every word is what keeps us going.

Each refurbished appliance not only helps reduce waste and carbon emissions but also carries a blessing from society. Our goal is to extend the lifespan of appliances while supporting people in need, fostering a culture of resource sharing and community care.

Looking ahead, ALBA IWS will continue to expand the refurbished appliance donation, and work alongside partners to build a more compassionate and sustainable society.

We understand that visiting our facility at EcoPark, Tuen Mun, can be challenging. Therefore, when ALBA IWS was invited by Link Sustainability Lab to contribute to their latest exhibit on the “Loop to Last: Unveiling the Circular Economy”, we eagerly embraced the opportunity.

The exhibit aims to showcase the potential of the circular economy in addressing today’s pressing ecological crisis. It covers a wide range of aspects, including sustainable fashion, eco-friendly packaging, marine litter management, waste-to-energy solutions, nature-based solutions, and, of course, e-waste recycling.

ALBA IWS is delighted to present the story of e-waste recycling, emphasizing the importance of responsibly recycling electronic waste and offering an inside look into the processes involved at WEEE · PARK.

The exhibit also showcases the RVM (reverse vending machine) project by Smart City Circular Economy Solutions Limited in a video titled “Where have the plastic bottles gone?” This project plays a vital role in promoting the collection and recycling of plastic bottles, effectively reducing plastic waste in our environment.

By participating in this exhibit, our goal at ALBA IWS is to make the concept of the circular economy more accessible to the public. We firmly believe that sustainable practices should be easily implemented in our daily lives. Together, we can create a positive impact on the environment by making eco-friendly choices and supporting initiatives like the circular economy.

The Circular Economy exhibit at the Link Sustainability Lab, Lok Fu Place Kowloon, opens on July 13th and will run for 8 months. It presents an excellent opportunity to gain insights into various aspects of sustainability and explore practical solutions that can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future!

At ALBA IWS, we go beyond collecting and recycling Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). We also refurbish select WEEE items and give them a new lease on life as “reborn” electrical and electronic products, and donate them to the needy. Sometimes we receive generous donations of obsolete or slightly defective appliances from our business partners, who also believe in our mission to help those in need.

In collaboration with the Christian Family Service Centre (NGO), we organized donation activities on four Saturdays in the past 2 months. Our focus was on the residents of transitional housing in the Tseung Kwan O area, families who have been waiting patiently for government housing for an extended period.

While we conduct donation activities throughout the year, this initiative was of a larger scale with over 300 beneficiary households. Our ultimate goal is to expand these efforts to ensure more people across Hong Kong benefit from our contributions.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff volunteers and the support from management team. We were also honoured that our esteemed partners such as Whirlpool and Contex, also joined us to make a positive impact in the community.

As we reflect on smiles and heartwarming experiences, we are reminded of the transformative power of giving, and how these humble refurbished appliances become priceless pieces. We are immensely grateful to Christian Family Service Centre for their partnership, and to all our staff, volunteers, and partners who dedicated their time and efforts to make a difference.

Together, we are reshaping lives, one piece of refurbished WEEE at a time. We remain committed to our mission of creating a sustainable future and to reuse wherever possible. Let us work hand in hand to foster a society where everyone has access to the essential resources they need to thrive.

We paid a visit to the animal shelters and had a deeper understanding of their circumstances and difficulties. Thanks to the generous support from Arçelik Hitachi Home Appliances Sales Hong Kong Limited and HongKongSuning, we donated two refurbished washing machines and five refurbished air conditioners to the shelters. These appliances will enable the shelters to provide a more hygienic and comfortable environment for the animals.

During our visit to the two shelters, we learnt firsthand about the hardship that the abandoned animals suffered. It is our pleasure to utilize our refurbished appliances while helping the animals in need. While ALBA IWS will continue to assist the animal shelters in Hong Kong, we look forward to more attention and support on animal welfare in the community. In addition to volunteering and donation to the relevant animal welfare organizations, you may also consider adoption instead of purchasing to show your love for animals.

The workshop encouraged participants to use their culinary skills to promote racial harmony and cultural integration. As the supporting organizations, ALBA IWS and Toshiba have offered the required cookware for the workshop. While preparing their signature dishes, all volunteers had a good time with the ‘cooking mama’ participants.

Regardless of the hot weather, our volunteer team delivered bulky appliances including refrigerators and washing machines to beneficiary living in the walk-up apartments. These donations reflect our strong commitment to social responsibility as we support the community while extending the lifespan of appliances.

Our team prepared little games for the fairgoers and promoted ‘WEEE Transform Waste’. Everyone should play a part in proper e-waste recycling and we will keep connecting and engaging the community via different activities.
