ALBA IWS aimed to provide practical help to families affected by the floods promptly. After the storm, we, collaborated with Tai O Chinese Chamber of Commerce and CC Smile Charity Foundation, conducted three batches of refurbished appliance donations, contributing a total of 65 pieces to support households in need. We also provided on-site collection of residents’ old e-waste damaged by flood to help reduce pollution to the environment.

Moreover, we visited several beneficiaries to better understand their living conditions and the challenges they faced during the typhoon. Many stilt houses in the villages were submerged above the knees. One of the families lives in a tiny stilt house on the coastline, and thus they were the first to be affected when the typhoon swept through, resulting in the loss of many home appliances and impacting their daily life. With the refurbished refrigerator we donated, they can now store fresh food and gradually return to a normal life.

Rebuilding takes time, and our contribution was only a small part of the effort. Still, we hope these simple gestures brought a bit of comfort to the people of Tai O after such difficult days.

Each appliance represents more than just a physical object – it is a symbol of care from the community.

These heartfelt words were shared by the underprivileged beneficiary families. Every word is what keeps us going.

Each refurbished appliance not only helps reduce waste and carbon emissions but also carries a blessing from society. Our goal is to extend the lifespan of appliances while supporting people in need, fostering a culture of resource sharing and community care.

Looking ahead, ALBA IWS will continue to expand the refurbished appliance donation, and work alongside partners to build a more compassionate and sustainable society.

Six booths were set up, featuring information on regulated e-waste, showcases of refurbished electrical appliances, and sustainability messages shared by various organizations. Some exhibits also highlighted upcycling initiatives, demonstrating how creativity extends the lifespan of products and reduces resource wastage.

Four hands-on workshops were held, including eco deodorizer workshop, refurbish appliances workshop, mini electric truck workshop and carbon reduction workshop. Participants of all ages actively engaged in the activities. Elderly visitors observed the material sorting process for the first time, while younger participants enjoyed the hands-on fun of DIY upcycling.

ALBA IWS remains committed to collaborating with different organizations and building a more sustainable community.

The event welcomed Dr. Samuel Chui, Director of Environmental Protection, as Guest of Honour. Mr. Jakob Lambsdorff, COO of Smart City Vertical at ALBA Group Asia, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting shared environmental goals and the importance of public-private collaboration.

The event also included the presentation of Carbon Reduction Certificates to partner retailers and suppliers who contributed to 88,835 tonnes of CO₂e reduction in 2024. Property management companies and NGOs were also recognized for their efforts in community recycling and environmental education. Finally, a guided tour gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at how we turn e-waste into valuable new resources.

This 5-million milestone is not just a number, but it’s about working together to make a real change.

Since opening in 2017, the centre has welcomed over 30,000 visitors. The upgraded tour begins with WEEE · PARK’s history and milestones, followed by a visit to the Refurbishment Workshop, where guests can understand the donation service in action and observe the repair process for refurbishable appliances.

Then, head to the Unloading Bay to learn about the importance of electronic waste recycling through on-site demonstrations of upcycled products, along with a carbon emissions calculator, and to find out our process of handling WEEE.

In the Buffer Storage area, various appliances are displayed in the awaiting zone, allowing visitors to understand the handling process before they are sent for recycling. The journey concludes at the Dashboard Area, which provides an exhibition space for secondary raw materials, recycling data, and photo opportunities.

By combining education, innovation, and sustainability, WEEE · PARK aims to inspire greater awareness of responsible WEEE management and a greener future for all.

The temperature was extremely hot during the 2 days, rising up to 34°C at times. There were showers in the morning and the rain just stopped before we began planting.

Although the trees are still small now, they will grow up to 6 to 20 meters in height when fully grown. These trees will not only enhance the beauty of WEEE · PARK but also play a crucial role in cooling the area, lowering the temperature by up to 5°C, creating a refreshing oasis for everyone to enjoy.

One of the most compelling benefits of this mini forest is the improvement in air quality it will bring to WEEE · PARK. The trees will release oxygen and absorb harmful pollutants, resulting in cleaner and fresher air for our colleagues and park visitors. This environmentally friendly initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and creating a healthier community.

What a great way to conclude the first half of the year with this remarkable “Awards Presentation Ceremony for E-waste Management & Partnership” event! 

The event began with a captivating corporate video showcasing our past achievements, followed by a warm welcome note from Mr. Donald Lim, General Manager of ALBA IWS. 

Our Guest of Honour, Mr. Kenneth Cheng, Acting Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Department, delivered an inspiring welcome speech, setting the tone for the event. 

We were privileged to recognize and award 100 outstanding organizations from various sectors, including retail, electronic brands, corporations, property management, Green@Community. Their remarkable contributions to E-waste collection have made a significant impact, and we applaud their dedication and commitment. Awards were also given to corporations, NGOs and volunteer groups who have supported in donating refurbished electrical appliances to those in need. 

The awards were hand-crafted from recycled glass from WEEE · PARK, beautifully demonstrating the essence of the circular economy and the importance of sustainable practices. 

Following the award presentation, a panel discussion was led by Mr. Kenny Wong, Director & Project Manager of ALBA IWS. The esteemed panelists shared valuable insights and perspectives on “E-waste Driving Circular Economy,” inspiring us all to explore innovative strategies and solutions for a more sustainable future. 

The ceremony concluded with a networking session where attendees had the opportunity to connect and enjoy refreshments while capturing memorable moments with our upcycled art pieces and utensils reborn with our recovered materials.
