Our ALBA IWS team at WEEE · PARK – Hong Kong’s WEEE Treatment & Recycling Facility – was honoured with the Platinum Sustainability Award – Major Project at the CIWEM HK 2025 Innovation & Sustainability Awards, organised by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management Hong Kong (CIWEM HK).

This award is especially meaningful because CIWEM HK recognises projects that demonstrate holistic sustainability, long-term environmental impact, resource efficiency, and strong real-world applicability, which are all core judging criteria for this year’s awards. To be selected as one of the two Hong Kong’s top environmental projects by a professional institution is a true honour.

A huge thank you to our dedicated ALBA IWS team and partners who made this possible. The WEEE · PARK project continues to serve as a powerful example of how innovation, engineering excellence, and circular-economy thinking can transform Hong Kong’s environmental landscape.

Adding to this momentum, we are honoured to receive the Gold Award in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE). This prestigious recognition highlights our dedication to environmental management and green practices, assessed on green leadership, program implementation and partner synergy.

These achievements go beyond awards, they are a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to driving sustainable development and setting benchmarks for best practices in e-waste management.

As we step into 2026, we remain focused on advancing ESG excellence and creating long-term value for our stakeholders and the community.

Apart from showcasing the Mini WEEE Hero, we also displayed parts from different appliances to illustrate that proper recycling of e-waste can play a crucial role in a circular economy. For instance, young visitors can learn that the plastics from a washing machine can be utilized to make a deodorizer case, while the glass from washing machine doors can be repurposed into glass decorations. We aspire to engage youngsters through exhibitions and interactive games, fostering their understanding of the importance of proper recycling.

We also shared our key project that brings the circular economy to life – WEEE · PARK collects and recycles e-waste with an 86% recycling rate, turning waste into valuable secondary raw materials.

A big thank you to everyone who visited us, especially our client, the Environmental Protection Department, HKSAR (EPD), for supporting our shared goal of a cleaner and more circular Hong Kong.      

ALBA IWS aimed to provide practical help to families affected by the floods promptly. After the storm, we, collaborated with Tai O Chinese Chamber of Commerce and CC Smile Charity Foundation, conducted three batches of refurbished appliance donations, contributing a total of 65 pieces to support households in need. We also provided on-site collection of residents’ old e-waste damaged by flood to help reduce pollution to the environment.

Moreover, we visited several beneficiaries to better understand their living conditions and the challenges they faced during the typhoon. Many stilt houses in the villages were submerged above the knees. One of the families lives in a tiny stilt house on the coastline, and thus they were the first to be affected when the typhoon swept through, resulting in the loss of many home appliances and impacting their daily life. With the refurbished refrigerator we donated, they can now store fresh food and gradually return to a normal life.

Rebuilding takes time, and our contribution was only a small part of the effort. Still, we hope these simple gestures brought a bit of comfort to the people of Tai O after such difficult days.

Our Director, Kenny Wong, joined the panel “The Path Towards Successful Producer Responsibility Schemes”, where he shared our perspectives and explored the future development and challenges of the initiative with industry peers.

Each appliance represents more than just a physical object – it is a symbol of care from the community.

These heartfelt words were shared by the underprivileged beneficiary families. Every word is what keeps us going.

Each refurbished appliance not only helps reduce waste and carbon emissions but also carries a blessing from society. Our goal is to extend the lifespan of appliances while supporting people in need, fostering a culture of resource sharing and community care.

Looking ahead, ALBA IWS will continue to expand the refurbished appliance donation, and work alongside partners to build a more compassionate and sustainable society.

Six booths were set up, featuring information on regulated e-waste, showcases of refurbished electrical appliances, and sustainability messages shared by various organizations. Some exhibits also highlighted upcycling initiatives, demonstrating how creativity extends the lifespan of products and reduces resource wastage.

Four hands-on workshops were held, including eco deodorizer workshop, refurbish appliances workshop, mini electric truck workshop and carbon reduction workshop. Participants of all ages actively engaged in the activities. Elderly visitors observed the material sorting process for the first time, while younger participants enjoyed the hands-on fun of DIY upcycling.

ALBA IWS remains committed to collaborating with different organizations and building a more sustainable community.

The event welcomed Dr. Samuel Chui, Director of Environmental Protection, as Guest of Honour. Mr. Jakob Lambsdorff, COO of Smart City Vertical at ALBA Group Asia, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting shared environmental goals and the importance of public-private collaboration.

The event also included the presentation of Carbon Reduction Certificates to partner retailers and suppliers who contributed to 88,835 tonnes of CO₂e reduction in 2024. Property management companies and NGOs were also recognized for their efforts in community recycling and environmental education. Finally, a guided tour gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at how we turn e-waste into valuable new resources.

This 5-million milestone is not just a number, but it’s about working together to make a real change.

We believe small steps will lead to big changes.
